Obituary for Dolores Anna Friesen

Dolores Ann Friesen, 85, of Manhattan passed away Thursday, February 15th at the Via Christi Assisted Living Village in Manhattan, where she had resided since August 2013.

She was born on May 18, 1932, in Brockton, MA to William & Linnie Kindt. She had an older sister Virginia Cartwright. She attended local schools. On June 5, 1949, she married George Feroli. Together they had two sons, George and Danny. Danny passed away from SIDS at the age of thirteen months. George and Dolores later divorced. In 1959, she moved to Manhattan with her young son George. To support herself and George, Dolores worked numerous jobs. The Chicken Shack, Dr. Levinson's Office, The Bus Depot, and JC Penny's Jewelry Department, were some of the places she was employed. From 1962 to 1967 she was married to Charles Sutterlin. On Dec. 5, 1968, in Las Vegas, NV, she married Lowell Wayne Friesen. They made their home in Riverside, CA. Then in 1974, returned to Manhattan, to live closer to the family. Wayne preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2006. Dolores was a lifetime member of the VFW #1786 Women's Auxiliary and a former Avon Representative. She loved socializing with friends, traveling with Wayne, going to the Casino's, and caring for her two German Shepards, Toby and Jason. She would always feed any stray cats that showed up on her porch in the morning. Occasionally, a few of those stray cats would find a permanent home with her and Wayne. She loved pampering her furry friends. Dolores had a positive attitude towards life and was always seen with a smile on her face.

Dolores is survived by son and daughter-in-law, George and Mary Sutterlin, of Manhattan and 5 grandchildren, Gerard (Molly) Pfannenstiel, Omaha, NE. Shane Hosier & Arpi Minassian, San Diego, CA, Serina (Matt) Norris, Amanda Sutterlin & Jesse Sexton, and Charles Sutterlin, all of Manhattan, KS. Also, 3 great-grandchildren, Lucy & Leland Pfannenstiel, and Sophia Sexton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, son Danny, and sister Virginia.

As per Dolores's request, friends are invited to visit with the family on Sat. Feb. 24, 2018, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM, followed by a small prayer service at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home. At 2:00 PM a procession will proceed to the Valley View Memorial Gardens. A gathering for a Celebration of Life will follow at the Blue Hills Room.

The family requests any donations be made to Russell T. Reitz Animal Shelter and left at the funeral home.
