Obituary for Marilyn Taylor

Marilyn Taylor, 80, of St. Paul, Nebraska, formerly of Manhattan, died Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Matelyn Retirement Community in St. Paul after a brief battle with cancer. She had just recently moved to St. Paul to be nearer to her son Kevin.

Marilyn was born on May 31, 1938 in Junction City, Kansas, the daughter of Harold and Doris (Shull) Taylor. She spent most of her life in Kansas. She married Robert Summers. They had two sons- Kevin and Brian. They later divorced. Robert proceeded her in death. She worked as a secretary at Fort Riley- at Irwin Army Hospital and Headquarters Third ROTC Region. She then worked at the Farm Service Agency in Manhattan. She retired after over thirty years of federal civil service.

She loved doing crafts- sharing many of creations with family and friends. She taught herself to knit and was very successful at that. She was an excellent gardener and loved anything having to do with nature. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and at Manhattan Family Budget Shop.

She is survived by her two sons, Kevin Summers and Lana Lukasiewicz of St. Paul and Brian Summers of Des Moines, IA and his two children Cole (Michelle) Summers of Madrid, IA and Claire (Alex) Flaspholer of Story City, IA; one great granddaughter, Reagan Flaspholer of Story City, IA; one brother and sister-in-law John and Barbara Diane Taylor of Manhattan and one sister, Janice Moyer and Dave Suhling of Manhattan.

Also surviving are two nieces, Sarah Rizza (Steve) and their daughter Olivia; and Laura Moyer (Richie Woltkamp); and two nephews Dusty Taylor (Lindsay) and their two children Nora and Finn; and Matthew Taylor.

She is also survived by Lana's daughter Angela and Fred and children, Jaylie an Brinley of Hastings, Nebraska.

Also surviving is her beloved dog Mickey.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation in Manhattan.

Memorial Donations (charity to be determined later) may be made to Kevin Summers in care of the funeral home.
