Obituary for Bryan "Scott" Palmer

Bryan “Scott” Palmer was born in Manhattan, Kansas, in 1972, to parents Norwin and Wilma Palmer, and welcomed by big sister, Carrie. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1991. Scott passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018, after a decades-long battle with Spinal Cerebellar Ataxia.

In his early years, Scott loved anything with wheels on it or an engine in it, and he was a fearless daredevil with an infectious smirk and an ornery streak. Even as his disease took his abilities away, he found ways to playfully annoy his friends and family with his assistive devices and his motorized wheelchair. In High School, he enjoyed watching sports and sang in the Manhattan High School Concert Choir. Scott was loved beyond measure, and though we are all thankful his suffering has ended, he will be missed by those who remain: parents Wilma and Norwin Palmer (Manhattan); sister, Carrie Palmer and niece Emma Hoisington (Oklahoma City); and many caregivers (All Saints Home Care) and nurses (Healing Hands Home Healthcare) who attended to him at the CPRF Timbers facility in Wichita, KS, where he lived for many years.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 17th, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, marked by a Gathering in Remembrance at 12:30 PM, at the Good Shepard Hospice House, 3801 Vanesta Drive, Manhattan. A private family gathering will follow at 1:00 pm.

Through Scott’s gift of tissue donation to the University of South Florida Ataxia Research Center, we hope to learn more about his Ataxia, and benefit others struggling with this terrible disease. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family asks those wishing to do so, to please consider a gift to either the National Ataxia Foundation, Research Fund, which currently offers a dollar-for-dollar match for any gifts; or the Good Shepard Hospice House in Manhattan, http://homecareandhospice.org/memorial-donations/, in memory of Bryan Scott Palmer. https://app.mobilecause.com/form/oZ4ArQ?vid=4s90
