Obituary for Carl E. Carlson

Carl E. Carlson, 86, of Manhattan, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Via Christi Village.
Carl was born on August 31, 1931, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Harry and Helen (Walbridge) Carlson. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1950. As a youth, Carl was confirmed at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Manhattan. He remained a member of that congregation for life. He was also a member of the Eagles Club.
Carl was a calm, steady and caring individual. Being the youngest child in the family, he was the care-giver for both of his parents as the years went by. He was a good cook and provided many meals for his parents as well as other family members and friends.
Carl was a talented musician and could play both the accordion and piano by ear. He had the ability to play most songs upon request.
Carl was well known around Manhattan and made friends easily. He never knew a stranger and had an easy-going demeanor that appealed to those from all walks of life. Carl did not have many expectations from life but took each day as it came. He could stay calm in most situations and remained unruffled, rarely losing his temper.
By trade, Carl was a painter and expert wallpaper hanger. His meticulous work and attention to detail allowed him to be sought after by many local contractors. Carl had an eye for color and enjoyed working with interior designs. He also enjoyed working with people.
He is survived by his two brothers Clifford H. Carlson of Manhattan, Kansas, and Jerome B. Carlson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, his sister Dorothy J. Bean, Fremont, Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Great Lakes Hospice.
