Helen (Jean) Limbocker on July 11, 2015, while at Meadowlark Hills Sloan House, went to her eternal home in her sleep at the age of 94. She was born September 12, 1920, on a farm near Wilson, Kansas to her parents Frank and Albina Broke. Jean attended small country schools until their family moved to Ellsworth, Kansas where she attended high school. In 1944, Jean moved to Manhattan, Kansas where she worked at the Wareham Hotel and Coffee Shop. During that time she met and married Charles 'Cotton' Limbocker, who was the operator of the hotel and coffee shop, on May 16, 1945. Shortly thereafter she and Cotton opened the Chef Cafe #2. As late as 1995 Jean was still helping her two sons at Bocker's 2 in the Ramada Inn and also at the Wareham Cotton Club. Jean was a devout Catholic and was involved in many church activities at Seven Dolors and St. Thomas More Catholic Churches including the Altar Society and the Budget Shop. Her favorite activities were golf, playing cards, particularly bridge and canasta along with slapjack. She was a regular for years on the Chef Cafe bowling team that went to the state tournaments several years in a row in the late 50's & 60's. Jean is survived by her two sons, Bob Limbocker (Teryl Booz) and Larry Limbocker (Jeanne Krier) both of Manhattan, Kansas and a brother, Al Brokes (Valle) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cotton Limbocker, in 1973; a brother, Fritz Brokes in 1960, and step daughter, June Lutz in 1975. She was a proud grandmother of six grandchildren, Brooke Porter(Matt) of Overland Park, Kansas, Aly Limbocker-Swanson (Matt) of Manhattan, Kansas, Liz Williams of Olathe, Kansas, Travis Limbocker of Daytona Beach, Florida, Andrew Limbocker (Jenn) of Kansas City, Missouri, Mark Lutz ( Adrienne) of Wichita, Kansas; and four step grandchildren, Ryan Langton (Melissa) of Olathe, Kansas, Jay Langton (Tiona) of Jefferson City, Missouri, Barrett Langton of Denver, Colorado, Dustin Langton (Sara) of Coppell, Texas; nieces, Audre Brokes (John) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Linda Towry (Ron) and nephews, Brendan Brokes (Kirsten) of Billingham, Washington, Craig Brokes of Baltimore, Maryland and Dwayne Brokes of Wichita, Kansas; ten Great- Grandchildren, five Great Nieces and Nephews, and nine Step-Great Grandchildren. We wish to thank all the staff at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community and in particular the staff nurses and everyone else at the Sloan House for making Jean's home there the past four years pleasant and comforting. A visitation for friends and family will be held at Irvin~Parkview Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm with a memorial service on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 10:00 am at the St. Thomas More Church followed by a private family burial at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meadowlark Hills Foundation, Sloan House 2121 Meadowlark Road Manhattan, Kansas 66502 .
