Ann Smith, 76, of Manhattan, died Saturday, August 27th, at Good Shepherd Hospice House. Mathilda Ann (West) Smith was born in New Braunfels, Texas on October 9, 1939, the daughter of the late Monnie Belle (Grant) Dickey and Woodrow Wilson West. She was married to Robert E. Smith June 26, 1973 in San Antonio, Texas, they were married for 38 years. She and Bob lived in Hawaii from 1975 moving back to Manhattan in 1979 and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2012. She grew up in New Braunfels, Texas and attended the local schools to junior high, graduating from Burbank High School in San Antonio, attended San Antonio Community College for 2 years,. She lived in Wamego for a several years before moving into Manhattan. Ann was a member of First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, and the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority Chapter Gamma Lambda. For 25 1/2 years she worked at Kansas State University as an accountant in Controller's Office, retiring in 2005. Ann is survived by two daughters, Vickey L. (Sheryl Siegle) Grochowski, of Manhattan; Deborah K. (Michael) Wonderlich, of Mahomet, Illinois; a son,James D. (Lana G. Ryland-Smith) Smith, of Manhattan; a step son,Jarrod M (Tanya) Smith, of St. Louis, MO; a sister, Ruby Jean (Warner) Shows, of San Antonio, Texas; two half sisters, Lillian Beatrice Smith, of New Braunfels, TX; Thomas Josophine James, of Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Samatha K. Wonderlich, Sean M. (Ashley) Wonderlich, Calvin J. Smith, Grace E. Smith and Alexandria (Charles) Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Robert E. Smith Friends are also invited to call with family present from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, August 31st at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1st at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation in Manhattan. Interment will be at the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan. Family suggest memorial donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Disabled American Veteran.
