Donald S. Whittlesey Donald Severs Whittlesey, 96, Manhattan passed away Saturday, March 2nd, at the Homestead Care Home in Manhattan. He was retired as a factory serviceman for Lennox Industries. Don was born in Boone, Iowa on August 15, 1922, the son of the late Francis Mayme (Severs) and Lynn Melzar Whittlesey. On July 27, 1944, he was united in marriage with Gwendolyn Belle Dozer at the Grace Episcopal Church in Winfield. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa; served during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a PFC. Don was a member of the of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Manhattan for many years and was a member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge No. 16, A.F. & A.M., Manhattan Don survived by his wife Gwen; son, Lynn O. Whittlesey, of Manhattan. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren: Bryan (Andrea) Ring and Dustin Ring; 3 great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Ring, Alexandria Ring, Ashleigh Ring; Brother-in-law: Bob Wesbrooks of Grove, Oklahoma; Son-in-law: David (Debra) C. Ring. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Diana Kay Ring and his brother Robert L. Whittlesey. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 10, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, March 11, 2019, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Manhattan, with Fr. Patrick Funston officiating. Burial services with Masonic Burial Ritual and Military Honors will follow at Sunrise Cemetery The family requests any donations be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 601 Poyntz Ave Manhattan, KS 66502 or the funeral home.
