Edward Dale Guliford, age 85, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026. He was born on May 28, 1940, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Lazzelle Guliford Sr. and Virginia Iona Guliford.
Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked in the natural gas and pipeline industry in Great Bend, Kansas, for 29 years, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Family meant everything to Edward. When the children were growing up, he loved spending weekends camping with his wife and children, creating memories his family would always cherish. He also enjoyed fishing when his wife would take him along and had a passion for collecting coins.
Edward was a devoted sports fan who enjoyed watching basketball and football and proudly cheered on his favorite teams, Kansas State University and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Edward was the tallest among his siblings, but it was his character and kindness that truly made him stand out. Growing up, his father trusted him to take the family traveling because he knew Edward would always make sure everyone arrived safely.
Throughout his life, Edward remained someone his family could rely on for guidance, support, humor, and thoughtful advice. He was often the first person to check on loved ones and make sure everyone was doing well.
He also enjoyed spending time playing dominoes with his brother Ramon, and they had a very close relationship, always working together on various projects and being of service to others.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Guliford; four children, Susan Harper of Dallas, TX; Eddie Guliford (Jana) of Pardubice, Czech Republic; Devon Guliford of Galveston, TX; and Anthony Guliford of Omaha, NE; several grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings Wilma Jane Guliford-Richardson of Topeka; Saxie Guliford of Manhattan; Sheldon Guliford of Wichita; Kevin Guliford of Topeka; Lana Guliford-Thompson of Wichita; and Toni Guliford-Vereen of Topeka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lazzelle Guliford Sr. and Virginia Guliford; and his siblings, Lazzelle Guliford, Jr., Eleanor Guliford-Daniels, Lawrence Guliford, Earnest Guliford, Alonzo Guliford, and Ramon Guliford.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 9 a.m., with a funeral service following at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church of Manhattan, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery of Manhattan at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026.
