Obituary

Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Krieger passed away peacefully at her home in Manhattan, Kansas, on December 20, 2025.

Liz was born on August 3, 1957, in Hoxie, Kansas, to Larry and Mary Ann (Keeling) Sullivan. As the daughter of a minister, Liz’s childhood was shaped by frequent moves. After the birth of her sister, Jane, the family moved to Ransom, Kansas; Albion, Idaho; and Baker, Oregon. In Baker, her father was a professor at a Christian college.

In the summer of 1970, the family returned to Kansas, settling in Miltonvale. Liz attended junior high and high school there and was a member of the graduating class of 1975. She married Charles “Charlie” Neef, who was serving in the U.S. Army. The couple moved to Germany during his military assignment, where they welcomed their first child, Jeremy. Together they later had three more children: Amanda, Lori, and Annabel. Liz cherished her time in Germany and often reminisced about the culture, food, history, and people she met there.

Throughout her life, Liz held various careers, ultimately earning a master’s degree in computer science. She found great joy and fulfillment in computer programming, a field she truly loved.

In May 1998, Liz married Michael Krieger. They made their home in New York City (Queens) before moving to Denver, Colorado, and eventually returning to Kansas. Liz chose to remain in Kansas to be close to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, whom she deeply loved.

Liz was an avid baker, an enthusiastic gardener, and a devoted reader. She enjoyed thoughtful discussions about politics and was actively involved with and volunteered for the Riley County Democratic Party. She will be remembered for her vibrant debates, intellect, and baking talent.

Liz is survived by her husband, Michael Krieger; her father, Larry Sullivan, and his wife, Marian McKain, of Manhattan, Kansas; her sister, Rebecca Jane (Ron) Cline of Shawnee, Kansas; and her children: Jeremy Neef and his fiancée, Amy Thomas, of Kansas City, Missouri; Amanda “Mandy” Neef and her partner, Scott Fenton, of Independence, Missouri; Lori (Justin) Teel of Manhattan, Kansas; and Annabel (Daniel) Dvorak of Junction City, Kansas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michelle Neef of Olathe, Kansas; Byron Neef and his wife, Brittani Thompson, of Kansas City, Missouri; Brice Neef of Topeka, Kansas; Brenden Neef and friend Josh Grilleeoh of Junction City, Kansas; Tristen and Kylee Teel of Manhattan, Kansas; and six great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 3001 Grand Mere Parkway, Manhattan, Kansas 66403.
