Gerald "Scott" Hall was born in Brunswick, Georgia to Gerald Eugene and Jannette Helen Hall on November 21, 1967. Scott completed his journey here on earth and passed on to his Heavenly Father on November 23, 2020. Scott's father was in the Navy and Scott spent his childhood in New Jersey and Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins - whom he loved. His family moved to Guam where he started school and enjoyed the beaches. He started reading when he was two years old. At school the teacher had him read to the class because he did so with such enthusiasm, that the students would rather hear him read than the teacher. By the end of the second grade was reading on a 12th-grade level and doing math on a 5th-grade level. Later his family moved to Wichita, Kansas. Scott played the saxophone in the marching band for South High School and was a member of the Spanish Club. He later became a licensed Laboratory Technician. Scott had a great sense of humor and did impersonations. His favorite pastime growing up to record interviews with him as the interviewer and the guest. He would do skits about the Blues Brothers or Cheech and Chong. If he couldn't convince his brother to participate then he would play both parts. He spent many hours entertaining his family with his antics. His sense of humor with his family was to get a reaction but he would never carry it so far as to hurt their feelings. He was a very gentle soul. Scott taught himself to play guitar and it became one of his passions. He loved music and had a mass collection of CD's and records from hard rock to jazz to classical to opera. He had a photographic memory and you did not want to play "Trivial Pursuit" with him! Scott was kind, gentle, and had empathy for others. He had a special connection with animals. When we drove into Gage Park the domestic geese would run to him, honking when they saw our car. He would sit on the bench and they would put their heads in his lap. While he would pet their heads and necks, they would let out long moaning honks. Cats and dogs gravitated to him like he was an animal therapist that they could tell their troubles to and he comforted them. In his 30's Scott was diagnosed with a devastating mental illness. He fought a courageous battle to navigate his world and ours. In later years he became a resident of Eskridge Care and Rehab. In their loving and caring arms, he felt safe and blossomed into a confident man laced with humor and compassion. He knew all the staff's and resident's names. He said it was important and respectful for people,s dignity to be called by their name. Scott is survived by his mother, Jannette Rivers of Alma, Kansas, and his brother, Chris Hall of Wichita, his brother, Ben Rivers of Wichita, and sisters, Jennifer Rivers and Crystal Williams of Oxford, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Hall, and his stepfather, JC Rivers. Scott's smile, humor, and bear hugs will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Memorials in his name can be made to the Pet Connection 1301 Asherville Rd E, Beloit, KS 67420. Arrangements are currently pending at this time and have been entrusted to Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation.
