Hattie Mae Kidd, 86, of Manhattan, formerly of Chicago, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 5th, at her home. She had worked in Chicago as a floral designer and for Zenith Electronics. Hattie Mae Graham was born in Blytheville, AR on November 29, 1929, the daughter of the late Sam and Annie Mae (Jones) Graham. Hattie was married to Willie B. Kidd on July 8, 1966, and he preceded her in death. Although Hattie attended church faithfully as a youth in Blytheville, she joined and confessed her love for the Lord while attending Sunrise M.B. Church in Chicago, IL, where she was baptized in 1974 under the leadership of the late Pastor A.T. Tilley. She served in various roles (Mother’s Board, advisory board to the Junior Ushers and Choir members, Kitchen Committee, and support staff when needed). She attended Sunrise Baptist Church until the time she moved to Manhattan, KS on August 30, 2013, where she attended Manhattan First Assembly on occasion with her family. In Chicago, Hattie was quite active in the Chicago Area with South Austin Coalition Community Council (SACCC), a nonprofit organization that spoke in Chicago City Hall and traveled to Springfield, IL, and Washington, D.C. to fight for legislature bills related to health, education, rights of seniors, and fair housing. Hattie is survived by her daughter: Dr.Tandalayo Kidd, of Manhattan, KS; five grandchildren: Tanzania and Marcus Kidd (Manhattan, KS), Naphtali Morgan (Long Beach, CA), Ariel Ocean (San Francisco, CA), Carlin Ocean (Newport Beach, CA); two great-grandchildren: Taniyah Kidd, Caiden Miller (Manhattan, KS); daughter-in-law: Jay Ann Bland (Tucson, AZ); two special nieces: Myrna Lofton (Chicago, IL), Stephanie Lofton (Richmond, VA); two special nephew: Daryl and Keith Lofton (CA); two special great-nephews: Dar’Keith Lofton (Champaign, IL), Maurice Lofton (Bensenville, IL); a sister-in-Christ: Lillian Drummond (Chicago, IL); a special cousin: Lillie Carthan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and both sons, Ivory Jean Ocean, Marcellous Kidd; her only sister, Dora Lofton and former son-in-law, Michael McCall. At the family's request, there will be no viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be held at the Manhattan First Assembly of God in Manhattan, KS, 2310 Candlewood Drive Manhattan, Kansas 66503, with Billy Simar officiating on June 20, 2016, at 11:00 am. Hattie’s ashes will be buried in Hillside, IL at the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Hattie valued education!
