Larry R. Godfrey, 77, died Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Franklin Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Viewing Services will be held for him at Parkview Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 6 - 8pm. Burial services will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 11:00am at the Veteran's Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas.
Larry was born November 7, 1946 in Fairmont, West Virginia and attended high school at East Fairmont High School and graduated with honors. He then enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Viet Nam for almost 2 years at De Nang Air Base. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded from a sniper's bullet. While in Viet Nam he became acquainted with Verina Rose Thompson through mail correspondence. After being discharged from the Marines, he married Rose and attended Ohio University. He gradated with a degree in electrical engineering and began working at the Ohio Power Company for 6 years before moving on to become the Plant Engineer at Dow Chemical Company, then the Project Engineer at Rockwell International, and then Facilities Engineer and Plant Engineer at other facilities. He also started his own business as an engineering/computer consultant. Larry and Rose had two children, Patricia Rose Godfrey and Richard Wayne Godfrey.
He attended Calvary Faith Tabernacle in Newark, Ohio and was a Sunday School Teacher and led several Bible Studies as well as organizing church social events and Christmas and Easter programs. Later in his life he earned a Master's and two Doctoral degrees in Christian Education through the Shalom Bible College.
He is survived by his wife, Rose (Thompson) Godfrey of Kansas, his daughter and son-in-law Trisha and Scott Snyder of Kansas, his son and daughter-in-law Rick and Benea Godfrey of Georgia, four grandchildren, Talon Godfrey (wife Bradlie) of Georgia, Aiden Godfrey of Georgia, Caitlin Snyder of Kansas, Robyn Snyder of Kansas, and his sisters Carol Lee Aronhalt and Lana Sandy, and his nephew John Cochran (wife Marci) and niece Miriam Bingamon (husband John), all of West Virginia. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Sterling and Alma Godfrey, and his sister Cheryl Cochran, also of West Virginia.
