Marie Gladys (Burke) Braddy Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Marie Gladys (Burke) Braddy passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Via Christi in Manhattan, Kansas. Marie was born on June 1, 1919 on the family farm north of Kimeo, Kansas to Michael and Mae (Dietrich) Burke. Marie moved to Manhattan during high school and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1937. She married Charles L Braddy at Seven Dolars in Manhattan on June 3, 1942 and they made their home in Pratt, Kansas. Marie was a homemaker and later worked as a cook at the Catholic School. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Altar Society and Legion of Mary in Pratt. Charles and Marie moved back to Manhattan in 1991 and attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church where Marie was a member of the Third Age Group and Altar Society. Marie moved to Junction City in 2005 and lived with her daughter Colleen. She attended St. Xavier Catholic Church and was a member of the Tuesday Night Rosary Group. Marie is survived by sons Garry and wife Barbara of Lawrence, Kansas; Charles of Reno, Nevada; Larry of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter Colleen Henney (widow of Mike Henney) of Junction City; grandchildren Charlene Henney and Michelle and husband Virlyn Carter II of Junction City, Kansas; Nickolas Braddy of Seattle, Washington; and Aaron and wife Devon Braddy of Hoisington, Kansas; great-grandchildren Chance Henney and Christian Carter of Junction City, Kansasand Melody and Willow Braddy of Hoisington, Kansas; sisters Leona and husband Ernest Simcik of Waco, Texas and Madeline (widow of John) Neenan of San Jose, California. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, an infant daughter Vicky, an infant granddaughter Michelle Ann Braddy, brother James Burke and sisters Nellie Martin and Leota Waddell. Marie will be greatly missed but fondly remembered as the best mother, grandmother and great-mother by her family and as a wonderful cook to all those that knew her. She loved her family and hosted many family get togethers and celebrations over the years. Visitation will be held at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan from 9-8pm with the family recieving friends from 6 - 8 pm on Tuesday, January 22 with a rosary at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 23 at 1 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, officiated by Father Don Zimmerman. Burial will follow at Sunrise Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Alzheimer's Association and left in the care of Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation.
