Robert Carlton “Robbie” Sloan, Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by family at home in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born December 4, 1955, in Great Bend, to Robert C., Sr. and Connie (Ewing) Sloan. He married June Hammeke on August 14, 1976, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend.
Robbie worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a brakeman/conductor from 1980 until his retirement in 2003. After moving from Great Bend, he and June resided in Hutchinson and Branson, Mo., before settling in Manhattan. Robbie was a former member of Woodland Hills Church in Branson. He enjoyed playing golf with buddies and brothers-in-law, and his kids and their spouses in the later years, though they joked that was when it was not too windy, not too hot and not too cold. His adventurous side sent he and June on a few cruises to exotic places, and trips to the mountains in Colorado were made at least annually. He would test his luck at the casinos, especially enjoying the time spent there with his dear sister Darcee. Robbie had a memorable sense of humor and a quick wit. Above all, he revelled in the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, June; son, Bobby Sloan and his wife Kate of Manhattan; daughter, Ashley Blake and her husband Cody of Manhattan; grandchildren, Abram Farley, Sawyer Sloan, Parker Blake, Kinley Blake; brother-in-law, Phil Ranker of San Diego, Calif.; a large extended family and many friends, all of whom will miss him very much. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Galen and Ula Ewing, parents and sister, Darcee Ranker.
Graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Ellinwood with Father Andy Hammeke and Pastor Troy Miller presiding. Memorials have been designated to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge or St. Croix Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
Arrangements handled by Bryant Funeral Home of Great Bend, Kansas and Irvin Parkview Funeral Home of Manhattan, Kansas.
