W. Donald (Don) McQueen, 89, of Manhattan, died Tuesday, September 24, 2019. He was a retired civil engineer who led the construction of bridges, overpasses, and piers in 27 different locations across the world. Don was born in Logan Township, Dearborn County, Indiana on April 15, 1930, the son of the late Samuel B. and Blanche M. (Edwards) McQueen. On October 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Peggy Joyce Smitherman in Hamilton, Ohio at the Immanuel Baptist Church. He received his civil engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati. Don served in the United States Naval Construction Battalions "Seabees" during the Korean War. He was a member of LION's club and also was a Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine Temple in Indianapolis, Indiana serving as a Shriners Hospital Driver with over 100 trips for families in need. Don is survived by his wife Peggy of Manhattan; three daughters, Cynthia Kaye Dunn and husband Duane, of Wamego, Kansas; Linda Denise Arroyos, of Houston, Texas; Susan Diane Nye, of Clear Lake, Texas and one son, Dennis Edwards McQueen and wife Beth, of Cedar Park, Texas. He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren, and is also survived by four sisters, Norma L. Rudicil, Indiana; Joyce Roberts, Ohio; Winnie Haber, Ohio; Naomi Poe, Indiana and a brother, Audley McQueen, of Kentucky. Don is preceded in death by his parents, his son David and a granddaughter, Heather McQueen. Services for Don are private. The family requests any donations be directed to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida, 33607 (lovetotherescue.org) or may be sent to the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date, in Indiana.
