A very good man passed away Thursday morning, August 15. Wallace (Wally) Glen Jeffrey, 97, worked for Kansas Power and Light. Wally was born to Emma and Monroe Jeffrey in Sioux City, IA on January 27, 1922. Wally was united in marriage to Geneva Leola Brase in Manhattan on April 17, 1942, and married for 58 years before her death in 2000. He was united in marriage to Ruby Lorraine Scurlock who proceeded him in death. In 2010 he was joined in marriage to Margaret Crook who survives. Wally served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. as a forward radio operator who controlled American fighter planes. He was stationed in England for several months in preparation for the D Day invasion. He was involved in the invasion in Normandy on Omaha Beach on D Day. They proceeded through Europe helping to free all of Europe. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant with 5 Battle Medals and a Meritorious Achievement Plaque. He belonged to the VFW, was a former member of the Stagg Hill Golf Club, and the Pearce-Keller American Legion Post #17. Survivors include a son, Gerry (Sharon) Jeffrey of McPherson, KS and a daughter, Dixie (Phil) Coursen of Fishers, IN; stepsons, Bruce (Judy) Crook of Scottsdale, AZ, Tom (Lisa) Crook of Dallas, TX, Billy (Zoila) Crook of Salt Lake City, UT, stepdaughter, Carol, deceased; is also survived by 5 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He had two brothers, Robert B. Jeffrey and James A. Jeffrey who preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening August 19 at the Carlson’s Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation, 1317 W. Poyntz Ave. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors at the Sunrise Cemetery. The family invites you to join them after the internment services to the American Legion for lunch at 12:00. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Elara Caring Hospice, Manhattan or Pearce-Keller American Legion Post #17.
