Robert E. "Bob" Smith
Robert Earl Smith, 70, of Manhattan, passed
away Sunday, January 15th, at Mercy Regional Health Center.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, as a SFC (E7) in 1985, where he
was an engineer in construction. After his retirement he
became a truck driver for Keim Transportation of Sabetha, KS.
Bob was born in Floresville, TX on November 29,
1941, a son of the late Annie Pauline (Dickey) and Robert Lee
Smith. On May 28, 1973 in San Antonio, TX he was united in
marriage to M. Ann (West) who survives him. He served
three tours of duty during the Vietnam War, and served in the clean
up of Enewetak Atoll Islands (Marshall Islands); Bob also received
his college education thru the U.S. Army. He was a member of
First United Methodist Church in Manhattan; the Veterans of Foreign
War, Lee Pierson Post #1786 and the Amerian Legion in
Manhattan.
Robert Earl "Bob" Smith is survived by his wife,
Ann, of 38 years; two daughters, Vickey L. Grochowski, and partner
Sheryl Siegle of Manhattan; Deborah K. Wonderlich, and husband
Michael, of Mahomet, IL; two sons Jarrod M. Smith, and wife Tanya,
of St. Louis, MO; James D. Smith, and daughter-in-law Lana
Ryland-Smith, of Manhattan; also surviving are five grandchildren,
Samantha Wonderlich, Sean Wonderlich, Alexandria Ryland, Calvin
Smith, and Grace Smith; and a sister, Janice E. Creech, of Austin,
TX. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, and an infant
brother; and a brother-in-law, Robert Creech.
Friends are invited to call on Friday,
January 20, from 9am to 8pm at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home
& Cremation with the family present from 6pm to 8pm.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30am,
Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the funeral home with Nancy J
Kollhoff officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunrise Cemetery in
Manhattan.
